Summer has come with its warm weather, sunshine, and longing for vacation. The summer holidays are long-awaited all year round and one of the most exciting times.

Many people go on vacation in the summer months, some near some far … but how many pay attention to the way they leave their home before their travels? It’s not a nice feeling to come back from holidays and find a pile of dirty clothes, rotten food, smelly garbage, and a lot of housework awaiting you, so it is smart to give your home a light clean before your travels. Here are some tips on how to prepare your home before you leave on holiday.

  1. Order your clothes after packing the luggage.
One of the main mistakes people do before their travels is to prepare their luggage at the last minute, so they leave lots of clothes lying around the house when deciding what to take with them. The better way is to start packing 1-2 days in advance and make sure to put the clothes you will not take with you nicely folded in the wardrobe, that way you will not have extra work when you come back.
  2. Do the laundry.
It’s normal that when you come back from the holidays you will have a suitcase full of clothes that need to be washed, but don’t make it harder for you with another pile of dirty clothes waiting for you home as well. Make sure to do the laundry 1-2 days before you travel and fold it nicely in the wardrobe.
  3. Change the bed sheets.
Isn’t it the nicest feeling to come back from a long trip and just go straight to your comfortable bed to rest on clean bedsheets? In order to be able to do so, you should change the bedsheets before your travels so that a fresh bed awaits you at home.
  4. Put any wet towels to dry.
Have a last-minute shower before you leave for the airport? No problem, just make sure you dry the bathroom and hang the towels to dry. The last thing you’ll want is to come back home to mildew.
  5. Clean the fridge.
Depending on how long you will be away, there is a big chance some if not most of the food you have at home will go bad. Don’t leave any fruits on the counter that might go rotten. Also, check the fridge for open foods that will go bad by the time you come home and throw them away.
  6. Throw away the garbage.
Make sure you throw away all the garbage before leaving, otherwise it will start smelling and it will not be the nicest feeling in the world coming home to that.
  7. Don’t leave vases with flowers on the table.
Any cut flowers left for a few days will dry and the water in the vase will probably start smelling making it an unpleasant task to wash it later. Make sure you throw away any flowers left in vases.
  8. Wash the dishes.
You probably don’t want to come home to a pile of dirty dishes after a long journey. Be prepared and wash and dry any dishes before you go.
  9. Do some light cleaning.
To be sure you’ll come home to a neat and pleasant home take some time to make a light cleaning including vacuuming, mopping, and wiping the surfaces. You’ll be very happy you’ve done that when you come home to a neat and welcoming home.
  10. Unplug appliances.

It will not only save you some money on the electricity bill but might also save your home from trouble. Unplug any appliances that won’t need electricity while you are gone such as the tv, fairy lights, etc.
